Go to abms.org/board-certification. Enter the doctor's name. Verify board certification status (active, expired, never certified).
Step 2 — State license check
Each state has a medical license lookup. Verify active license in the doctor's claimed primary state.
Step 3 — NPI check
NPPES NPI registry at npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov confirms NPI number and basic credentials.
Red flags
